Punk’s not dead, and neither are splash pages

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

….they’re very much alive – at least in the music industry.

The semi-distant days of pointless flash animations and being caught off-guard by some annoying music blasting when visiting a site have thankfully passed (at least in the sensible and modern design world), and though many would argue that splash pages make for a poor user experience – music marketing would beg to differ.

Well-designed, frequently-updated, and silent(!) splash pages can serve as excellent promotion for announcing an upcoming release or tour, providing download for an exclusive track, advertising exclusive pre-orders or merch bundles, or to encourage fans to follow them on social networks. I’ve designed and developed many-a-splash-page over the years for bands and labels and here’s a small sampling:

Here’s a little game I designed and built in Flash for PETA’s site CanadasShame.com , which spreads information on the horrors behind Canadian seal slaughter. Make sure your sound is on!

Here’s a sampling of some websites I’ve designed for PETA recently:

Happy New Year!

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Okay – so we’re already 14 days into 2008…I suppose it is a bit belated at this point. It’s fixin’ (thats the ‘Florida’ southern drawl slowly creeping in and taking it’s horrid hold on my vocabulary) to be a busy year so far!

I’m working on a line of plates for a company Creative Treasures - the details are ‘Top Secret’ at this point but stay tuned in a few months for some further information.

There are websites-a-plenty that are brewing right now…and they’re all going to be awesome!! Some will be utilizing some of my exciting new Coldfusion and Flex skills, and I’m simply dying to get them out there….but, yes, patience is a virtue my friend. And unfortunately in the web development world, killer websites don’t finish themselves overnight, so continue sitting on the edge of your seat.

Also, and in somewhat minor, yet personally exciting news, I made some changes to my website tonight – none of which you will notice….mostly some ActionScript changes that really improve the sites functionality and flow. They’re silly things that I’ve noticed – and likely noone else has…but it’s a sweet personal victory over procrastination! Yay! (and a few items added to the portfolio…perhaps those are things you would notice)Cheers!
